Jhalanath Khanal was born on May 20, 1950, in Sakhejung, Ilam, a hilly district in the eastern part of Nepal. Political Career

Later Involvement:

In 2018, after the CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) merged, Jhalanath Khanal became a leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). However, in 2021, the Supreme Court disbanded this party. 

Afterward, Khanal became a leader in the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist). This party was formed after a split from the CPN-UML. 

Recent Incident

During the GenZ protest in September 2025, Jhalanath Khanal wife, Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar was severely burnt after the protesters set fire to their house. Afterward, she was taken to the hospital. Protesters targeted and set fire to the houses of top leaders, namely KP Sharma Oli, Sheer Bahadur Deuba, Puspa Kamal Dahal, Jhalanath Khanal, etc, during that time.

The initial reports said she suffered major injuries and is recovering. However, subsequent reports confirmed that she died from the burns.
