Introduction

Aman Mali is a professional Nepalese flutist and multi-instrumentalist specializing in classical, folk, and jazz music genres. Currently, he is a flutist for Kuma Sagar and The Khwopa, one of the popular bands in Nepal, where his flute skills add a sweet touch to the group’s performance. In addition to this, he also shares his music and teaching online through YouTube and Instragram, inspiring many.

Early Life

Aman Mali fell in love with the flute at a young age when he heard a monk playing it for the first time. Afterwards, he purchased his first flute in Jamal for Rs. 400 and began learning it. At that point in time, he did not know that his early interest would blossom into ever-lasting love for music and even a career.

Aman Mali Education

Mali attended Indreni Secondary English School and continued his studies at AIMS Academy. He completed a four-year diploma in Eastern Classical Music at Om Sangeet Pathshala which is affiliated Pragya Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. Currently, he is studying a two-year Jazz Diploma in the Saxophone and the Concert Flute at Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory, to refine his talents and enhance his musical versatility.

Professional Career

With over 12 years of experience, Aman Mali has established himself as a significant Nepali flutist and multi-instrumentalist. He started his career by performing in restaurants. In later years, he became a part of multiple bands such as Nawa Durga and Render Band which allowed him to perform regularly and gain recognition.

He has also worked with the legendary 1974 AD band for about a year, touring both nationally and internationally. Today, Mali is a key member of the Kuma Sagar and The Khwopa band, offering his skills on flute to recording and live shows all over Nepal.

In addition to playing, Mali has dedicated over 10 years towards teaching music. He gives flute lessons at Little Angels’ School and also creates as well as uploads his teaching and performance videos to his YouTube page. Through this, he teaches aspiring musicians the importance of good music.

Musical style and Contributions

Aman Mali managed to incorporates the flute in various genres including classical and folk music to jazz and fusion. He has collaborated with artists like Subani Moktan, Rohit John Chhetri, Swopna Suman, Kunti Moktan, Rojman Maharjan and Kuma Sagar. Mali is the one who promotes musical literacy and urges young musicians to train regularly, to create and invent their own style.

Future Goals of Aman Mali

In addition to his career and work, Amal Mali is also planning to establish a music institute and his own instrumental album in the upcoming years. His vision is to keep spreading the love for music, produce his own instrumental compositions and to help motivate the new generation of Nepali artistes.
